Midnight Basketball League

About City Life

City Life is an effective ministry model to transform the lives of urban youth, their families and the communities that they live in.

The City Life model provides a strategic way to pursue every young person in urban communities all over the USA.

The Midnight Basketball League (MBL) is an outreach program of East Central Illinois Youth
For Christ. Our mission is to assist young men in finding vision and purpose for their lives
by introducing them to the importance of having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

To curb the violent crime in low-income communities committed by teen and young adult
males and to provide these young men with role models and discipleship necessary to
achieve a new vision for their lives.

The MBL was launched in September of 2014 at the Salvation Army Church/Gym on
Prospect Avenue in Champaign. We began with 9 young men and have grown to over
50 every Friday night.

Clearly, the dramatic rise in violent crimes and gang activity in our community has created
an urgent need for East Central Illinois Youth For Christ to increase its efforts to reach more
urban youth. Stratton Elementary School has been offered as a second site for the MBL
program. With the addition of this second site, we anticipate serving a total of 150 young
men every Friday night beginning the summer of 2015. We will use the Salvation Army
Gym for ages 11-14 (Middle School), and use Stratton Elementary for ages 11-19 (High

The MBL serves young men from the urban communities of Champaign-Urbana ages 11-19.
