Willie G. Comer Jr.

Executive Director

Rev. Willie G. Comer Jr. was born and raised on the Southside of Chicago. After high school he attended Delaware St. and Grambling St. Universities but due to financial hardships, he joined the U.S. Army to raise money for college.  Pastor Comer served eight  years in the United States Army and after military service; Rev. Comer received his AS Degree from Kennedy- King College, his BA. Degree from Chicago State University in Speech Communication and his Masters Degree from Liberty Theological Seminary.Rev. Comer joined the Salem Baptist Church of Chicago under the pastoral leadership of Rev. James T. Meeks in 1994. He accepted his call to preach the Gospel message in June of 1996 and was licensed at Salem. He served as the Director of Youth Ministries at Salem until he was named to the position of Student Ministries Pastor. Willie was responsible for increasing the Student Worship Service at Salem from 100 students every Sunday to now 1450 high school and college students each Sunday. He was instrumental in the development of the step ministry, rap ministry, praise and worship ministry, drum-line ministry and many others that allow students to use their God-given gifts, skills and talents.

Pastor Comer is the founder and national president of Zeta Phi Zeta Christian Fraternity and Sorority Incorporated which is a nationally recognized collegiate and Christian professional organization that encourages college students and Christian professionals to impact the world by living out the Word of God. 

In 2009, Pastor Comer was called to leave Salem and plant Berean Covenant Church in Champaign, IL. In 2014, the board of the East Central Illinois Youth For Christ brought him on as the Executive Director. where he has been instrumental in reachng youth in the urban communities of Champaign, Urbana through the Parent Life and City Life Programs. The City Life Midnight Basketball Program reaches on 400 young people every month on Friday nights. While the Parent Life Program is reaching young mothers and their children with the life changing Gospel of Jesus Christ. 

Rev. Comer shares his passion for teenagers and young adults with his wife Zabrina and they’re three children. He leaves this quote with all that he comes in contact with;
“Don’t be what you want to be; be everything God called you to be!”
